Appearance
Despite the name, it’s not really orange…more of a golden to bright yellow. Over time the wood darkens to a medium brown.
Workability
Osage Orange is a difficult wood to work with because it is extremely hard and dense. It turns very well and has no issues with gluing or finishing.
Uses
Bow making, instruments, and fence posts.
Additional Comments
Osage Orange is a gnarly tree that often has a crooked trunk that makes it impossible to use as lumber. That being said, the wood is very stable and bends without breaking which explains its use by bowyers.
