Appearance

Darker in colour then Black Walnut, it has a deep chocolate colour and occasionally has a purple hue. There is also light coloured wood mixed in which reduces the yield of dark brown wood.

Workability

Works well with hand or power tools but can tearout if the grain is figured.

Uses

This is a great wood for furniture making and veneers. It also gets used to make musical instruments, flooring, and interior trim.

Additional Comments

Peruvian Walnut is not always from Peru and is also referred to as Nogal, the Spanish word for Walnut.

Why choose Peruvian Walnut Wood?

Peruvian Walnut is the darker, more dramatic cousin of American Black Walnut. It has a deep chocolate brown to almost black color with streaks of purple and gray running through it that give it a richness and depth that is hard to match. Also known as Nogal, it is hard, stable, and machines and finishes beautifully which makes it a natural choice for fine furniture, cabinetry, and flooring where you want that dark, luxurious look without reaching for stain. The grain can range from straight to wavy which adds character and figure to an already striking wood. Like American Walnut it develops a rich patina over time that only adds to its appeal.
