Appearance
The heartwood is uniform in colour ranging from light pink to reddish brown. It is common to see pockets of gum or oil within the wood. The grain is unremarkable and bland.
Workability
Spanish Cedar works well with both power and hand tools. It tends to have a fuzzy surface if the tools used are not sharp and may require sanding to higher grits to get a clean surface. The gum and oil pockets can cause finishing a challenge.
Uses
Often used for cigar box liners and humidors, it also gets used for classical guitars and other musical instruments.
Additional Comments
Spanish Cedar is on the CITES Appendix III in many of the countries that grow it. Technically not a cedar at all, it is more closely related to the true mahoganies.

Why Choose Spanish Cedar?
Spanish Cedar is one of the most useful and aromatic woods you can work with. Despite its name it is not a true cedar and actually belongs to the mahogany family, but it earned that name from its spicy scent that fills the room the moment you cut into it. That scent isn't just pleasant, it naturally repels insects which is why it has been the lining of choice for humidors and cigar boxes for centuries, keeping cigars perfectly preserved and contributing to their flavor over time. It's lightweight and naturally resistant to rot and moisture which makes it a trusted choice for boat building, outdoor furniture, and window frames in climates where humidity is a constant battle. Spanish Cedar has a reddish brown color with a straight grain that machines and finishes beautifully.
