Appearance

As the name suggests, Yellowheart lumber has a rich pale to golden yellow colour that only darkens slightly with age.

Workability

Yellowheart wood works well with both hand and power tools though areas of interlocked grain or figure can pose challenges. It can have a moderate dulling effect on tools and has an odour that is an acquired taste.

Uses

Commonly used for accents on furniture, flooring, boatbuilding, and turned objects.

Additional Comments

Yellowheart aka Pau Amarello, Portuguese for ‘yellow wood' is one of the few hardwoods that doesn’t lose the colour vibrancy that you see after aging.

Why choose Yellowheart Wood?

Yellowheart is a dense, exotic hardwood known for its intense natural yellow color that deepens over time. It has a fine, uniform texture and generally straight grain, giving it a clean and consistent appearance that stands out without needing stain. This wood is very hard and durable, making it well suited for flooring, furniture, inlays, and decorative accents where a bold color is desired. It machines fairly well with sharp tools, but its density can cause some wear on cutting edges and requires a bit more effort than domestic hardwoods. Yellowheart finishes smoothly and takes polish well, though its natural color shift to a richer golden tone should be expected over time.
