Appearance
The name says it all! Zebrawood has light brown and dark brown steaks that resemble the coat of a zebra. The straight quartersawn surfaces are generally more desirable compared to the chaotic cathedrals of flatsawn.
Workability
The wood is prone to tearout due to the often interlocking grain but saws well enough. It glues well and takes finish well though a clear pore filler is needed for a smooth finish. This is another wood that has a notoriously unpleasant smell with worked.
Uses
Often used in its quartersawn form, Zebrawood is used for furniture, tool handles, and even skis.
Additional Comments
AKA Zebrano, it's hard to beat the visual drama displayed by this wood.
